What is Valentine’s Day – History of Valentine’s
Most countries across the world celebrate St Valentine’s Day every 14th February, but how did this lovefest of a holiday begin?
The legend of St Valentine is thought to have originated from both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. Within the Catholic Church there are at least three different saints named Valentines or Valentinus who were martyred.
One is said to have served as a priest in Rome, during the third century in the reign of Emperor Claudius II. The emperor believed that single men were better soldiers than those who had wives and families, so he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine was said to have felt the decree was unjust and continued to perform marriages in secret, but once this was discovered he was put to death on Claudius’s orders.
There are others who say that the holiday stems from Saint Valentine of Terni who was a bishop. He too was allegedly beheaded by Claudius II outside of Rome.
Another story suggests Valentine was killed for attempting to help Christians escape Roman prisons. It was said that the prisons were harsh, and the prisoners were beaten and tortured. Legend says that Valentine, himself imprisoned sent the first ‘Valentine’ after falling in love with a young girl. It is thought that she was the jailors daughter who visited him during his incarceration. The story goes that before his death he wrote her a letter and it was signed ‘From your Valentine,’ which is where the popular expression came from.
Although the date for Valentine’s Day is believed to be when he was killed or buried. Many claim it was a creation of the Christian church to ‘Christianise’ the pagan celebration of Lupercalia, which is a Roman fertility festival celebrated on the 15th February.
Valentine’s Day Ideas – Romantic and Fun Ways to Celebrate
1. Make Your Own Bucket List Together
It makes sense to start with the most obvious one, because a perfect way to spend time with your valentine is dreaming and planning the incredible things you want to do together. Creating your own list is easy, but if you’re not sure where to begin then check out our guide on ‘How to Start Your Bucket List’. Hopefully it will inspire you and provide questions which should generate ideas and bucket list goals.
You can spend valentines cosied up together with great food and drinks, talking about your dreams. The best part of this is that all you need is a pen and paper to get started. Of course, the key to a bucket list is putting those plans into action, but that can wait until the next day. Your special night is all about your hopes and ambitions, so dream big because you’re worth it.
2. Mark Something Off Your Bucket List
If you’ve already created a bucket list together, then why not use valentines as the day to tick something off. It’s ideal because you’ll never forget it and it’ll make a special day even better. It could be anything from a night in a posh hotel you’ve always wanted to stay at, or a restaurant you’ve been excited to go to. If you’re not sure which one to choose first, then why not close your eyes and just pick one.
3. Take a Trip to Somewhere You’ve Dreamt of Visiting
Can you imagine a better valentine’s day, then spending it with the person you love in a place you’ve always wanted to visit. Whether it’s that iconic city break in Paris or Rome, a Greek cruise, or a tropical trip to the Caribbean. This is maybe one you’ll want to save for, but make sure wherever you are, that on valentine’s day you celebrate in style with your beloved.

4. Watch Your Favourite Romantic Movie Together
Most couples have that one romantic movie that they both love, so why not spend valentines cosied up together and rewatching it. This is a great option because it costs nothing and sometimes we struggle with holidays such as valentines, because they can be expensive. If you want to make it extra special, then buy some nibbles and drinks to enjoy through the film. There are so many to choose from such as The Notebook, When Harry Met Sally and Love Actually. You’ll laugh, cry, cuddle up together and have an overwhelming feeling of love, so its pretty much the perfect option.
5. Watch the Sunset Together
Valentines’ day is all about romance, but it’s also about being present with your partner on this magical day. One of the best ways to spend quality time together is by focusing on how incredible life is, but also how fleeting. The fact you both have each other in your life is a precious and wonderful thing, so cuddle up together and watch the sunset across the horizon. The fact you’re ending another day together should be something that is celebrated, and you can easily do it from your garden or a beautiful spot you both love. Of course, if you want to go all out then why not travel somewhere beautiful and take a moment to watch the sun disappear, as you snuggle up on a beach.
6. Enjoy Breakfast in Bed
We’re loving the low-cost ideas, so another one is making your beloved a beautiful breakfast in bed. Because it’s the day of love, then why not theme it with heart shaped pancakes, chocolate covered strawberries, whipped cream, or pink champagne (it’s Valentines Day so it’s allowed). Let your other half have a lie in as you prepare some incredible food, and you could even buy a serving tray to make it easier to eat and to add to the ambiance. If you use a tray, then what about decorating it with rose petals or a sweet love note.
7. Make a Playlist for Your Valentine
Music can evoke so many memories and most couples will have built up meaningful songs throughout their relationship. So why not compile songs that make you think of each other on a playlist and spend valentines night listening to them. It could be the song that played when you met, the first dance at your wedding, or a song with meaningful words that encapsulates your romance. Remember though it doesn’t have to simply be romantic songs, it could be shared jokes you have or your favourite karaoke duet. It may take a little preparation, but it’ll make your valentines extra special, and you can tie it in with great food, candles, and some wine.
8. Plan a Romantic Staycation in a Fancy Hotel
Within most towns or local areas, you’ll find a fancy hotel which is ideal for Valentine’s night. This one is ideal if you have kids and someone has offered to babysit, but you don’t want to be too far away. All you’ll need is a little over night bag, but make sure it has all the essentials you want for a romantic night. You could order some room service or head to the restaurant in the hotel. Then go for a walk on the grounds and grab a drink. Finally head back to the room and cuddle up together watching a movie and enjoying simply being together.
If hotels are too expensive then you can always check into a bed and breakfast, or even an apartment or glamping park.
9. Enjoy a Spa Day or Couples Massage
Spa days are the perfect expression of self-love, so they’re the ideal way to spend Valentine’s Day with your partner. Spa’s can vary in luxury, so if money is no object, then why not go all out and make it a day to remember. As well as using the facilities, you can book in for a couples massage and facials. But if the pennies are a little tight then why not create an at home spa experience and give that special someone your very own romantic massage. You could even buy massage oil, face masks, turn on relaxing music and light candles to make it even more memorable. There are plenty of guides online about how to give the perfect massage, or you could simply wing it.
If you’re looking for something in between a spa day and an at home experience, then there are plenty of salons who offer various types of massage and pamper treatments, or you could book an at home massage.
10. Recreate a Memorable Date
This could be your first date, the date when you knew you were falling in love or when you got engaged. Why not trace the footsteps of the past and reminisce about how magical your journey together has been. Hopefully you can go back to the same restaurant and maybe order the same food and drinks to make it fully immersive. The best part of this is that you won’t have those awkward nerves, instead there will be deep feelings of love.
11. Write Love Letters to Each Other
We always assume that our partners know how we feel about them. But with the pressures of work, children, and everyday life, it can be difficult to remember the last time you told each other how much they have brought to your world and the love you have for them. So why not make a pact for Valentine’s Day and write love letters to each other, which you can then open during a romantic meal.
If you’re not sure where to start, then our advice is to look at old photos of you together so that you can think about what your partner has brought to your life. Tell them what you admire about them, how they make you feel and why you love them so much. The best part is that you can keep these beautiful emblems of your love together and read them whenever you need a reminder of how wonderful your relationship is.
12. Go on a Hike
If you’re a couple who prefer to be active, then maybe your ideal romantic day would be taking a scenic hike together. No matter where you are from, you’ll find there are lots of local trails available and most will have stunning views. It’s the ideal way to really be present with your partner and talk about how wonderful your life is together. You could prepare a little picnic to share if you want to make it extra special and remember to turn those devices off, so you have the much-needed space to bond.
13. Slow Dance to Your Favourite Couple’s Song
Most of us have that special song which represents our relationship, including the depth of the love we have for each other. If you haven’t compiled a valentine’s playlist, then what about simply putting on this meaningful song and slow dancing together. Where you do this is completely down to you, you could ask for it to be played at a local bar, or just take each other’s hands in the kitchen and spin around the room. There’s something magical about reminiscing and thinking of all those beautiful moments you have shared.
14. Take a Relaxing Bath Together
If you’re looking for a relaxing valentines, then what about taking a soothing bubble bath with your beloved? You can make it romantic with calming music, candles and essential oils or bath bombs to create lovely scents. Because it’s valentines what about adding some sweet treats such as champagne and chocolates, or you could sprinkle rose petals into the water. It’s the ideal place to just relax together or to talk about life and how lucky you are to have each other.
15. Have a Romantic Picnic
Most of you will probably live in countries which are incredibly cold during February, so the thought of a picnic isn’t something you’d consider for a valentines treat. But you don’t have to be outdoors to have a picnic, you can also do it inside and make it super cosy and comfortable. Preparation is key and you’ll need to make a space in your living room, lay out blankets and pillows, and put down plates of atypical picnic foods. This could be anything from sandwiches, sausage rolls, pastries, cakes, salads, and crisps. But seen as it’s a valentines treat why not add special extras with rose petals on the blanket, candles around the room, romantic music, and a little fizz to get you in the mood.
Of course, if you’re in a place that enjoys warm days and sunshine over valentines, then why not head outside and enjoy the fresh air together.
There are a couple of options we like on Amazon which are this deluxe wicker picnic basket or this picnic backpack cooler.
16. Stay Up All Night
It can be hard to find quality time when you’re a couple, especially if you’re working long hours or you have kids. You can begin to feel like you don’t really know each other as well as when you met. If you think back to the start of your relationship, you probably loved to stay in each other’s company for as long as possible, whether that was in person or on the phone. So why not take out some quality time and stay up together, drinking, talking, and reminiscing about the wonderful memories you have both created together. Again, its valentines so it should be extra special, with tasty snacks and drinks, but what about buying special Pyjamas to wear or a cosy blanket to remember the night.
17. Buy a Lottery Ticket for Each Other and Share What You’d Do with the Winnings
We love this one and will definitely try it next valentines, more so because we love to share our dreams and goals with each other. Just the thought of winning a big amount of money on the lottery is thrilling enough, but dreaming about all the things you’ll want to do together is equally as exciting. It’s also interesting to see what your partner says they’d like to do. Where would they travel to first, what car would they buy, what style of house and so on. Wouldn’t it be great if your ticket was actually a winner, and you could make all of those dreams come true.
18. Spend the Night Stargazing
Sometimes we forget how beautiful the world around us really is and it takes a special day to pause for a moment. If you’ve never considered taking the time to look at the stars, then what about sharing it with your partner on Valentine’s night. You can even prepare and take blankets, hot water bottles and warm drinks with you. The best part is you can either head somewhere with very little light pollution, or simply huddle down in some chairs in the back garden. If you’re an astronomy fan, then this is the ideal treat to share with someone. If it’s too cold to be outside and you have a planetarium nearby, then this is a great alternative and just as romantic.
19. Book into a Lavish Restaurant
This tends to be the atypical Valentine’s Day treat, so you’re probably thinking ‘what makes this bucket list worthy?’ Well, what about booking into that restaurant you’ve always wanted to try, but felt it was a little too expensive or lavish. Most restaurants tend to have\ a valentine’s day prix fixe menu, meaning that you can choose from a selection of items for a fixed price. This will give you a greater idea of the cost and whether you can afford to book there. If you’re not sure where to book, then look online for restaurants with incredible views, or exquisite food options. You could even indulge in some aphrodisiac foods such as chocolate, figs, oysters, and strawberries to create a romantic mood.
20. Take a Cocktail Making Class
This activity combines tasty drinks, with lots of fun and laughter, so it’s ideal for Valentine’s Day if you’re looking for quality time together. There are plenty of bars and restaurants around who offer cocktail making classes, so if you’ve fancied yourself as Tom Cruise in the movie Cocktail, why not show your other half what you can do.
During the class you’ll head behind the bar, where a mixologist will show you how to make a cocktail and then you’ll follow (or try to) their instructions. In most classes you will make four cocktails and yep you get to drink them all, so as you can imagine by the fourth one your talents will have gone downhill a little.
Your partner will look on as you show your incredible skills, or they’ll laugh as you make a total mess of it. But either way you’ll have a great time together and take lots of pictures, because the reality is you won’t remember it the next day after all that alcohol.
Once you’ve found your cocktail making mojo, then why not try to create your very own couple’s cocktail. Are you really the ultimate partnership if you don’t have your own signature drink?
21. Take a Cooking Class
If your cooking skills are a little lapse, or you and your partner love spending time creating culinary masterpieces, why not book a cooking class for Valentine’s Day. You’ll both pick up new skills and have the opportunity to try some tasty food, as well as spending quality time together. Why not make it a little competitive and see who creates the better dish.
If you struggle to book a cooking class for the big day, then why not simply cook dinner together. Again, if it’s something you enjoy then it can be incredibly romantic. If you’re not a skilled cook then you could order a home meal kit which has everything you’ll need, including instructions on what to do.
22. Pop the Question with a Romantic Over the Top Proposal
Valentines Day is the prime day for engagements, so why not make it a day to remember for your loved one and propose in an ultra-romantic way. There are so many different ways you can do this; it would be difficult to write them all down. But focus on making it personal and special to the person you love. Would they want it to be just the two of you, in public or including friends and family. Our advice would be to not follow the latest social media fad, simply think about what you both want (because it’s your special day too) as your ultimate proposal bucket list memory and go for that.
23. Make Love Somewhere New and Exciting
If your go to spot for getting down and dirty is in the bedroom, then why not spice it up for the most romantic day of the year. It doesn’t have to be al fresco if the thought of someone seeing you, sends you into a panic. What matters is that you have fun together, feel connected and enjoy some super sexy time.
If you’re going all out then what about heading to the beach, or a fancy hotel, on the hood of a car, a rooftop, in an elevator or even joining the mile high club. For those of you looking for something a little simpler and discreet, then why not head somewhere else in the house. Grab your partner and take them on the kitchen counter or pitch a tent (literally) and try some new moves under the stars. One of the popular ones is on top of a washing machine during the spin cycle, because those vibrations can really heighten the pleasure.
24. Reminisce About Your Wedding Day
For the husbands and wives out there, why not use this Valentines Day to think about one of your most special days together, your wedding day. There are so many ways you can do this, whether it’s watching your wedding video, or flicking through your album, whilst talking about those unforgettable moments which made it a day to remember. Of course, you could take it a step further and put on your wedding dress and suit, if you still have them and they fit. Finally, what about visiting the place where you said, ‘I do’ and depending on the location, grabbing something to eat, or staying overnight for added romance.
25. Head to a Theme Park
February 14th doesn’t have to be flowers, dinner and cosy nights in, if that’s not what you’re into. What about heading to a theme park for a different kind of excitement. This will depend on where you are in the world, but if you live in a cooler climate then you could always travel somewhere a little hotter for some thrill seeking. We’re huge fans of rollercoasters, in fact the faster the better, so this would be our ideal way to spend Valentines Day. Imagine holding hands as the coaster shoots off or getting cosy on a carousel. Even if you’re not a fan of fast rides, just being in some of the happiest places in the world, can make anyone feel joy and isn’t that what Valentines is all about?
One of our favourite places to be during February is Orlando Florida, visiting both Disney World and Universal Studios. If you’re considering a trip there this year then why not during this romantic period, because both parks celebrate in style.
We have guides to help you plan your trip, whether it’s ‘Disney World for First Timers’, or ‘Mardi Gras at Universal Studios’ which happens during that time of year.
26. Go Ice Skating
Theres a romance to gliding along on the ice with your loved one, holding hands and having them catch you if you fall. Think of those epic rom coms or Christmas movies with outdoor ice rinks, and how magical it all looks. If they can do it, then so can we, so why not head to an ice rink with your beloved on Valentines Day, it’s the ideal way to cuddle up in the cold but also have some laughs. Plus, you can warm up afterwards with a hot chocolate and some delicious, sweet treats.
If the idea of being cold is not for you, then you could always head to a roller rink instead and strap on those roller skates.
27. Fill the House with Candles
We’re sure you’re thinking, ‘doesn’t seem bucket list worthy,’ but our lists can be as simple or extravagant as we want them to be. The key to a bucket list is that what we do is memorable and fills us with joy. This is the ideal romantic gesture for those of you who want something cosy and at home, or you don’t have lots of money to spend. There’s something intimate about a room lit by candles, so imagine the impact of a room filled by candlelight? Whether you’re sat cuddling on the couch, enjoying a beautiful meal together or getting steamy, we know that lots of candles can only make it better.
28. Go to the Cinema
If sitting in a comfy chair, in a darkened room, with tons of tasty snacks and something fun to watch, sounds like the ideal date to you, then you must be a big fan of cinemas. So why not head to the movies with your dreamy date and enjoy a film on the most romantic day of the year. You could make it Valentines themed and buy heart shaped chocolates to nibble on. All that matters is you’re with the person you care about, which is the sign of a great Valentines Day.
29. Have a Heartfelt Conversation
For some of us, this is easier than others, so it will depend on how comfortable you are expressing your emotions. But hopefully when you’re with the person you love, it should be easier to have those deep meaningful conversations. Life can get hectic, and we can forget to take time out to tell each other how important the other person is. So why not sit down with a bottle of fizz and tell your partner why you fell in love with them. Was it a specific moment or a series of beautiful stories to reminisce on. You could also delve further and write little prompt cards to help with the questions. But the most important thing is that taking a moment together, will help remind you of why you are perfect for each other.
30. Enjoy a Craft Night Together
We must admit, we love anything crafting and have dabbled in a few things such as Cross Stitch and crochet. If you and your other half are the same as us, then why not spend Valentines Day together trying something new. You could even take a class such as pottery and reenact the scene from Ghost, although you may get a few funny looks.
What about candle or soap making, flower arranging, scrapbooking or painting, in all honestly it doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you have fun and spend some quality time together.
If you’re a little unsure of which to try, then check out our Hobbies Bucket List guide.
31. Go on a Dinner Date with Friends
Everyone assumes that because it’s Valentines Day, you can only spend it with the person you love. But in reality, as long as you’re both having fun then who cares who you’re with. Sometimes sharing special moments with your best friends makes the experience more fun, so why not spend Valentines Day together and go for a meal or even cook at home if you can’t get a babysitter. You can talk about great memories you’ve shared together as friends, or even tell stories about your relationship. Of course it doesn’t have to be a food related get together, you can always choose one of the other options on the list, such as ice skating and the cinema.
32. Head to Karaoke and Sing a Duet
If your ideal date night is hitting the karaoke machine, and belting out your favourite tunes then why not grab your partner and make it a Valentines event. You could sing together or to each other, and even bring your friends along with you. There are hundreds of duets which you can choose from and make your ‘couples’ song’. The best part of hitting the karaoke is that not only will you be having fun, but there are studies which prove that singing together builds stronger relationships, which sounds like a winning combination.
33. Spend the Day Volunteering
Valentines Day doesn’t have to be meals, flowers and chocolates, especially for those of you who have been together for a while and you’ve ‘been there and done that’. Why not celebrate this day of love by spending the day together and giving your time to others and making an impact through volunteering. It could be something organised such as a food kitchen and helping at an animal shelter, or more individual such as picking litter or helping an elderly neighbour.
You’ll both end the day feeling tired, but more connected to each other and your community. If you have no idea where to start, then Google ‘volunteer’ and your town or city and you should find lots of results and suggestions will pop up.
34. Hold Hands on a Walk
The new relationships out there will think ‘huh, holding hands? we always hold hands’. But this is probably for those of you who have been together for a while and forgotten the joy of having your hand held by the person you love. If you’re planning your Valentines Day, then why not add in something simple such as a walk holding hands. It’s the easy, free ideas which we love, because they are the ones that produce the lasting memories. If you want to make it even more special then head somewhere beautiful, such as a beach or botanical garden.
35. Do a Puzzle Together
We must admit we adore this idea, mainly because we love a good jigsaw puzzle! This idea offers a relaxing, fun night where you can spend quality time together chatting about life and your dreams. But at the same time, you’re connecting and having fun working on a puzzle together. There’s such an adrenaline rush as your puzzle begins to take shape, and if you’re anything like us you’ll end up spending more nights like that. We love to get in some tasty nibbles and drinks, then throw some music on in the background. It’s a great idea if you’re a little short of money and you’re looking for something fun but cheap.
36. Take a Bike Ride Together
Ok so its not the best time of year to go on a bike ride for most places in the world, but if you have a decent day then why not grab your bikes and head out together. Of course, if you live somewhere warm in February then this is a great option, and you could pack up a picnic and stop somewhere. But for the colder countries, it’s a great way to dust off the cobwebs and burn some energy together.
37. Book a Valentines Photoshoot
This is another option which can vary depending on what you want but is a great idea for Valentine’s Day, because you will have something lasting to take away. Most people only have professional pictures taken on their wedding day. So, taking a picture of you both on Valentines Day will give you something to reminisce about in the future. If you hire a professional photographer, you may end up spending a little more, but you’ll have the enjoyment of taking the pictures and then the amazing results which you could print out and show in your home. Because it’s Valentines Day you could go a little saucy and book a boudoir photoshoot and keep the pictures a secret that you share together.
If you like the idea of a photoshoot but you don’t have the money, then you could always ask a friend to take your pictures, use a tripod or a selfie stick.
38. Bake Something Sweet Together
Valentines Day makes us think of one thing, sweet foods, so rather than buying cakes or sweets why not bake something together. There are loads of ways you can make this fun, whether it’s making your treats heart shaped or red. You could even have a couples Bake-Off Challenge and compete with each other to see who makes the better sweet treat. The reality is that neither of you will lose because you can enjoy eating the tasty desserts you have made. It’s such a fun way to spend time together and who doesn’t love getting a little messy. Just leave the cleaning up until the day after.
39. Shop for Sexy Lingerie Together
Most people think of surprising their partner with sexy lingerie, but have you ever considered going shopping and picking out something together? It’s the perfect way to spice up your Valentines Day and you could wear it that night. The fact your partner picked it with you will make it even hotter and you’ll feel amazing, basically a win-win for everyone. Remember you don’t have to go crazy to turn up the heat, there are plenty of options to suit everyone. We’re huge fans of Ann Summers in the UK, but you’ll find lingerie stores everywhere.
40. Book Tickets for a Show/Concert
We love this idea because sometimes it’s nice to get out and see something new. There are plenty of places which will have concerts, shows or comedians on, and it’s the ideal opportunity to dress up and hit the town. Just take a look around all of your local theatres and even smaller venues, because we’re sure there’s something you’ll like; fingers crossed it’s a performer you’ve been dying to see. But if not then there’s a good chance, you’ll still have a great time. We love to see stand up comedy, especially in small venues, because you never know who you’re going to see.
41. Take a Scenic Drive
We’ve mentioned above about taking a trip somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit, but it doesn’t have to be as big or expensive as that. If you’re anything like us, then you’ll love just jumping in the car and taking to the road. So why not take a scenic drive together on V Day and pack up the car with snacks and drinks. Where you go is completely up to you, and whether it ends at a place you’ve always wanted to visit, or you simply turn around and head back. Just make sure you have some awesome road trip tunes playing and maybe even talk about what you’re planning on achieving from your bucket list over the coming year.
42. Workout Together
Not your first thought for Valentines plans? Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it, because getting a sweat on together really builds a connection between couples and you’ll enjoy that deluge of endorphins afterwards. You could simply go for a run, hit the gym or even sign up for a class together as a treat, such as yoga or Pilates. After you’ve burnt all those calories you both deserve a treat, so what about a coffee and cake to round up the ideal Valentines bucket list idea.
If the thought of going out in the cold February weather fills you with dread, then why not do an online class and workout at home.
43. Plan a Coffee Date
Sometimes the idea of planning something big for Valentines can get a little overwhelming, especially when life is already so hectic. Don’t worry we get it, so let’s bring things back to normal again and make life simpler. Sometimes the most romantic day of the year will land on a pretty mundane working day, so its hard to make something special happen. You don’t have to, simply spending time together is all that matters, so what about heading to a coffee shop, ordering a hot drink, something sweet and cosying up together. You don’t need a big elaborate weekend spa break to simply re-connect, or if you’re early in the relationship then this is perfect to take the pressure off.
44. Play Hooky
This one sounds both heavenly and a little bit naughty, but what better way to spend Valentines Day, than in bed together playing hooky from work. Life can be tough with never-ending chores or work, so why not forget about it all and call in sick at work. If you can pre-plan and get some delicious treats and simply stay in bed all day and enjoy your well-earned rest together. Whatever you get up to, whether it’s Netflix or chilling, we’re sure you’ll have an amazing time.
45. Head to a Museum or Art Gallery
This is a great idea for those Valentines Days when its cold and wet outside, but you still want to go out and spend time together. There are thousands and thousands of museums or art galleries all over the world, and if you’re in a warmer climate then why not add in a botanical garden to the list.
Because there are so many options of museums and galleries, we’re sure you’ll find something which you’ll both enjoy, and many museums are free to enter.
46. Have a Games Night
Games nights are always so much fun, we love to play board games such as Cluedo (Clue) or Trivial Pursuit. It’s also the ideal option for that cosy Valentines night in, especially if you have a competitive streak. You could of course invite friends, because what matters most is you’re creating memories with the people you love, even if someone has to lose.
47. Paint Together
Couples who create together, stay together; that’s a saying right? Well, it is now, so why not spend some quality time with your beau getting artistic and painting something beautiful. There are so many ways to do this, whether you buy a specific thing to paint, or just some paper. You could always go to a sip and paint class where you’re given guidance on a specific painting to replicate, and you can enjoy a few tipples as you’re doing it.
48. Arrange a Couples Treasure Hunt
We love a treasure hunt, whether it’s one we have created or something we have signed up to. So, if you’re thinking specifically about it for Valentines Day, then why not create one which is themed on love and your partner can find sweet little gifts or even notes around your home. This is another one you can do in a variety of ways, and it can be personalised, because at the end of the day you’re the prize.
49. Take Dance Lessons Together
When we think of the most romantic movies of all time, most of them include some type of dancing. Because it’s such a powerful form of self-expression, it’s not really a surprise. If you’re looking for something a little different for Valentines Day, then what about booking a dance lesson together. It could be any form of dance such as ballroom, salsa or cha cha, but the best part is that you’re learning a new skill and spending quality time together.
50. Leave Romantic Messages Around the House
We’ve left the simplest idea as the last, mainly because sometimes the gift of love should be the easiest. This is another one you can do in a number of ways, whether it’s post it notes dotted around the house, writing something in lipstick on the mirror, or a note on your tasks chalk board. Make sure its somewhere you know you partner will look. You could also make it even simpler and write them a beautiful text to start their Valentines Day off right.
